Worship in the Sanctuary has been suspended until further notice during the COVID-19 pandemic. Love your neighbor as yourself and shelter in place.
You can also love your neighbor as you love yourself by supporting us financially by mailing your tithes and offerings to the church that come to our secure lockbox or via Bill Pay with your local banking institution.
The First Presbyterian Church of Jackson is still serving God and serving and loving others as we continue to be the hands and feet of Christ during these uncertain times. We still provide food, personal needs, and financial assistance through direct and collaborative efforts using our local Love INC organization. We still work closely with the Samaritas (formerly Lutheran Social Services) on their local Refugee House for Unaccompanied Minors.
We continue during this crisis to host the Red Cross blood drives on an increased weekly basis, because of the tremendous need and value of this essential service. Thus some of our normal expenses will continue, versus closing the building down completely and better eliminating expenses.
As we all navigate this unprecedented time, our community remains strong and supportive. Your Church is committed to continuing to provide programming and we are planning new exhibits and events for your return. As you likely know by now, the CARES (Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security) Act was created to help individuals, families, businesses and nonprofit organization who are facing challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic. Provided below are a few elements that impact charitable giving and tax incentives.
The CARES Act:
*Temporarily suspends the requirements for required minimum distributions (RMSs) for the 2020 tax year. This comes as a relief to individuals who are 70 1/2 or older who would have had to withdraw a greater percentage of their retirement accounts.
*Allows all taxpayers to take a charitable deduction of up to $300, even if they do not itemize.
*Allows cash contributions to qualified charities like the Church to be deducted up to 100% of your adjusted gross income for the 2020 calendar year for taxpayers who do itemize.
We, at the Jackson First Presbyterian Church are so grateful for your support. If you are interested in making a donation to us please contact us at 517-784-9175 or .
PLEASE CONTINUE TO GIVE GENEROUSLY...
UPDATE ON MICHIGAN FLOODS:
I had had hoped to get this out before Sunday morning. I know that you and I are very concerned for the people of Midland, MI who have and are suffering from the loss of their homes due to the floods.
Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) has been on board from the start.
The “Midwest flood” account from previous years is the right one to use for directing PDA funds: #000191. Send a check to the church or give online through our website.
A major problem both with the flooding and the coronavirus situation is food insecurity. Donations to the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan designating flood-affected areas would be helpful.
Serving God as we Serve Others,
Pastor Jim Hegedus
